We are very excited to invite you to this major exhibition of the year!
The Rijksmuseum marks the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt's death in 2019 with 'Year of Rembrandt'. The year-long festival opens with the unprecedented exhibition ‘All the Rembrandts’, in which the Rijksmuseum will display presentation of each of the 22 works of art, 60 illustrations and in excess of 300 best examples of Rembrandt's prints in its accumulation.
Just as holding the world's biggest selection of Rembrandt artworks – including The Night Watch, the pictures of Marten Soolmans and Oopjen Coppit, The Jewish Bride – the Rijksmuseum exhibition offers the world's most extensive and representative diagram of Rembrandt's work of art.
Given the extraordinary rarity that great numbers of these fragile illustrations and prints go in plain view, All the Rembrandts offers a unique chance to gather an unparalleled viewpoint on Rembrandt the craftsman, the human, the storyteller, the innovator.
Together we will explore different aspects of Rembrandt’s life and work through a number of themes. The first section presents the milestones of his career as a young artist; when Rembrandt looks at himself in the mirror, the viewer looks over his shoulder. A close examination of Rembrandt’s many self-portraits reveals his growth as an artist of incomparable talent.
Moreover, we will see his major masterpieces and be overwhelmed by his ability to capture physiological state of souls, feelings and deep meanings of life... After all, he is one of the greatest artists ever lived.
Why finding a place in the market at first, he was rejected by it when his genius is no longer marketable?
How spirit of Protestantism and the Dutch aspiration to freedom influenced his art?
Perhaps the most vivid subject of his masterpieces - the states of human soul - so let’s learn to read these strings both in portraiture and in his uniquely personal and authentic illustrations of the scriptures.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
